Week of October 29th

This blog will act as our fifth grade weekly newsletter. We, as a 5th grade team, will update the newsletter weekly to include what your child will be learning, important dates, announcements, and more!


What we are learning this week:

Math: Financial Literacy

Science: The Effect of Force on Objects

Reading:  Nonfiction Unit begins

Language Arts: Scripps National Spelling Bee
                           Grammar: Verbs (helping & main verbs)
                           Writing: Expository

Social Studies:  Tensions Between Colonies & Great Britain




ALLASO RANCH:

We are very excited to be going on our three day field trip to Allaso Ranch in December! Below you will find the link to the presentation from our parent information meeting, and your child came home with the paperwork packet on Friday. All paperwork and money is due back by November 27th.


Young Photos Needed:
Please submit your child's baby/toddler/younger photo for the yearbook. A photo can be emailed to Many Munroe, the Yearbook Coordinator, at austinelementaryyearbook@gmail.com or turned into your child's homeroom teacher. 

Please send these by October 31st.


Additional Supplies:
Students will not be provided with a Mustang Folder this year. We were unaware of this change until the beginning of this year, so if you would like your child to have a take-home folder, please purchase an additional folder for their use. 


Background Checks:
Are you interested in helping in the office or classroom at Austin? Are you willing to come to Allaso Ranch with us this year? Or do you want to serve in our classroom during holiday parties, or help the PTO with events? To be eligible to volunteer on any of the CISD campuses for any of your "yes" responses above, you must complete a Background Check every year. The form must be completed at least a week prior to the volunteer event. It is best to go  ahead and fill one out now, just to be safe! Click here for the volunteer background check form!

Red Ribbon Week

Monday, October 22nd
**Neighborhood Walk 8:00AM
“We Are Proud To Be Drug Free.”
Wear red to help kick off Red Ribbon Week. Bring your homemade poster with you on our campus wide walk around the neighborhood to promote being drug free.

Tuesday, October 23rd  
“Don’t Get Mixed Up With Drugs.”
Wear mixed up and mismatched clothes.

Wednesday, October 24th
“Follow Your Dreams. Say No To Drugs.”
It’s pajama day!

Thursday, October 25th
“Your Future Is Bright Without Drugs.”
Dress like what you want to be when you grow up.

Friday, October 26th
“Austin Mustangs Team Up Against Drugs.”
Wear your Austin spirit wear, Coppell Cowboys spirit wear, or your favorite team jersey.
