Week of April 1st

This blog will act as our fifth grade weekly newsletter. We, as a 5th grade team, will update the newsletter weekly to include what your child will be learning, important dates, announcements, and more!



Math: Operation and Application Review

Reading:      Final Review of Reading Strategies

Language Arts:     Final Review of Vocab.
                           
Social Studies:     Westward Expansion



Due to STAAR, Austin Elementary will be closed to visitors April 9th, 10th, and 11th. 


Upcoming Dates for 5th Grade Families
**April 30th-Colt Camp at East for ALL incoming 6th graders and their families; 6:00-7:30pm. A tour of the school will be given, East spirit wear will be for sale, and 6th grade teachers will be available to meet incoming 6th graders and their families.
Good morning, 
**May 20th – Fifth Grade Performance for parents from 8:00 am ‐ 9:00 am 
**May 22 – Fifth Grade Awards Ceremony at 8:00 am
**May 23 –Last Day of School, walk to Ole’s for lunch, & final walk around the school






Personal Devices
As stated in the CISD Elementary Student Handbook, “Possession and Use of Personal Communication Devices, Including Mobile Telephones. For safety purposes, the district permits students to possess personal mobile telephones; however these devices must remain turned off during the instructional day, including all day during testing, unless they are being used for approved instructional purposes. A student must have approval to possess other telecommunication devices such as netbooks, laptops, tablets, or other portable computers.”


Additional Supplies:
Students will not be provided with a Mustang Folder this year. We were unaware of this change until the beginning of this year, so if you would like your child to have a take-home folder, please purchase an additional folder for their use. 


Background Checks:
Are you interested in helping in the office or classroom at Austin? Or do you want to serve in our classroom during holiday parties, or help the PTO with events? To be eligible to volunteer on any of the CISD campuses for any of your "yes" responses above, you must complete a Background Check every year. The form must be completed at least a week prior to the volunteer event. It is best to go  ahead and fill one out now, just to be safe! Click here for the volunteer background check form!

Social Studies:    Expansion of the United States



We have some upcoming dates and events that we wanted to share with you regarding our current 5th graders/incoming 6th graders.
**March 25th- Parent Meeting at East at 6:00pm. Kids do NOT need to attend this meeting. We will be discussing 6th grade courses and the registration process.
**March 27th-East counselors will visit Austin, during the school day, to speak with 5th graders about course registration for the 2019-2020 school year. Parents do NOT need to attend this meeting.
